•The starting point for this task was from a question on how to initiate research. From the previous task, I had several ideas which I had not explored yet on the printing process with surrounding materials/scraps and I wanted to develop/experiment on these ideas further.
•Hence, I started a trial for the word “Frame” and did some prints using rulers, papers, cards…as stencils. The stencilling technique became very naturally and many other ideas followed as printing with torn papers (for the word “ Fracture”) and overlapping with the idea of “a frame within a frame”. This idea was appealing in the sense that it was like an open window with a view to several different sceneries at a time…
The photograph shown below is only an initial experimental workout of one hour.
•From this, I evaluated that:
1.I still need to work for the word “Form”
2.I am not satisfied with the product so I may be
working on the work with a sort of collage using coloured papers.
3.I may try to fragment the work by tearing it to pieces
4.I want to experiment
with 3-D so may be I will be doing some forms with local clay and try to
fracture them when dried.
5.I need to work out some sketches to have a clearer
idea.
6.I want to experiment with broken glasses for
fragmentation: either literally or with detailed drawings/observational studies
(either with pen or with paint).
7.I may be using iron rods which have been soldered into
a play of frames (3-D work) where small sculptures will be integrated in some
of the frames for the word “form” and fragmentation with glasses.
•I hence completed my experiments with coloured torn papers and mosaic etc. on the A3 paper and the result can be seen below at different angles.
•The next move was to think about the 3D structure and sketches were drawn accordingly which are shown below.
•Iron rods were twisted and welded creatively as per the sketches and photographs of the work can be viewed at different angles.
•The cut pieces were inserted onto the welded structure
to fit the different frames.
•The idea was to integrate different materials and techniques together (a 2D mixed media collage and a 3D iron armature) into a whole.
